Location
The
Lao PDR is located in the
heart of the Indochina peninsular in Southeast Asia. It is a
landlocked country sharing a 505 km border with China to the north ,
435 km of border with Cambodia to the south , 2,069 km of border
with Vietnam to the east , 1,835 km of border with Thailand to the
west, and a 236 km border with Myanmar to the northwest.
Geography
The Lao PDR covers a total of 236,800 square
kilometers , three quarter of which is mountains and plateaus.It
is cress-crossed by many rivers and streams. The Mekong river flows
through 1,735 km of the country from north to south. The country has
the wealth of of forest covering 47% of the area.
Weather
Lao is tropical , and the weather is influenced by monsoons. Lao
has around 2,300 - 2,400 hours of sunlight per year. The annual
average rainfall is around 300 millimeters.

Population
The population of Lao PDR has reached 5,218,000 and is growing
at an anual 2.4%. the highest population density in Laos is in
Vientiane municipality. About 85% of the population are rural
dwellers. The population consists of 49 ethnic group , in four main
linguistic families ; the Lao-Tai , the Mone-Khmer , the
Tibeto-Burmese and the Hmoung-Ioumien.
